Introduces, reinforces, and reviews essential writing skills

   

Grade Levels
How much time will it take to teach a complete level, including assessments, worktexts, and Building Stamina?

Whole class: 85 minutes weekly, year-round
Pull-out class: 55 minutes once a week for 4-6 months
Before/After school: 1 hour 2-3 times a week for 3-4 months
For intervention: Use selected lessons as needed

   

Completely customized to the TEKS, Measuring Up® Writing gives you step-by-step lessons based on our proven best-practice model of instruction: 1) Focus on TEKS, 2) Guided Instruction, 3) Apply the TEKS, and 4) TAKS Practice. Use the lessons prescribed in each students' Personal Prescriptive Path (P3) report to provide targeted, differentiated instruction as needed.

  1. Focus on TEKS
    Introduces the lesson content, taps prior skill knowledge, and lists the TEKS for the lesson
  2. Guided Instruction
    Helps students analyze a model selection for specific elements of writing along and includes Guided Questions that focus a student's learning.
  3. Apply the TEKS
    Students practice applying TEKS knowledge to writing activities
  4. TAKS Practice
    Wraps up each lesson with questions that mimic the TAKS format

Includes questions that tap higher-order thinking skills to foster success on the TAKS

  • Provides short, effective models of good writing
  • Builds test-taking confidence with assessments that mimic the TAKS
  • Includes simple rubrics to help teachers and students assess writing quickly

Available separately:


Writing Prompts booklet prepares students for the TAKS Writing Test. An optional separate Writing Prompts booklet gives students 15 typical writing prompts with which to practice writing for the TAKS. For each prompt, there is a prewriting page for planning and a lined page for the final draft.
