100% customized to the Pennsylvania Academic Standards!
Employing current best practices as well as teacher feedback, this content-area reading program explicitly teaches one core comprehension skill or strategy in each unit, applying it to the four major content areas — language arts fiction, science, social studies, and math.
Eight units at each level teach the most-tested comprehension skills and strategies:
- Distinguishing Fiction from Nonfiction (Level B)
- Main Idea and Details
- Sequence
- Compare and Contrast
- Draw Conclusions (Levels B and C)
- Make Inferences (Levels D-H)
- Fact and Opinion (Levels C-H)
- Cause and Effect
- Problems and Solutions
Keep on Reading! selections gradually increase in difficulty to build confidence. In Levels B-D, each unit starts slightly below grade level with a fiction selection and builds to on-level, nonfiction reading. In Levels E-H, reading is accelerated with selections at the beginning of the book starting two grades below level and building to on-level reading at the end.
"Keep on Reading is very well aligned to our new content standards. The instructional materials are well presented and include a variety of assessments that are similar to those on the state practice assessments."
