Molefi Kete AsanteMolefi Kete Asante

Dr. Molefi Kete Asante is professor of African American Studies at Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the creator of the first program to offer a doctoral program in that discipline. Dr. Asante has directed over seventy Ph.D students.

Considered by many scholars to be the nation's leading African-centered scholar and author, Dr. Asante is also an educator, working with school districts and teachers nationwide to effect change in the curriculum. Dr. Asante is the author of more than 51 books, well over 300 articles, and has the only African-centered imprint of textbooks created specifically for grades 4-12, published by Peoples Education. In 1995, his book African American History: A Journey of Liberation was published, becoming the first high school African American textbook written for the schools by an African American scholar. The second edition of the textbook was published in 2001 by Peoples Education.

In 1994, Dr. Asante was honored by the country of Ghana by being made a king, Nana Okru Asante Peasah, Kyidomhene of Tafo, in the Eastern Region of the country. In 2000, Transition magazine called him "the most important professor" to emerge from the African American community.

Frank Kenel

Dr. Frank Kenel, Ed.D., coauthor of Studying for a Driver's License, has been involved in driver education and safety his entire career, and he knows what it is to instruct high school students in driver education. Dr. Kenel has also served as Director of Safety programs for several state universities and has consulted with the American Automobile Association. Dr. Kenel's work on the Uniform Vehicle Code for the United States and on such codes for various other countries puts him on the cutting edge of driver education and safety issues.

Noma LeMoineNoma LeMoine

Noma LeMoine is director of the project that resulted in the creation and publication of English For Your Success: A Language Development Program for African American Children Ms. LeMoine directs the project in the Los Angeles Unified School District. She is a speech pathologist and educator by training and experience, and she currently is working on her Ph.D. Within the Los Angeles Unified School District, the project is called Language Development Program for African American Students; for six-plus years now, the program has resulted in improvements in students' test scores, attitudes, and overall school performance. Dr. LeMoine also consults and provides teacher training.

Clanci Brown Miller

Clanci Brown Miller began her career as a teacher and shifted her talents to creating curriculum, and writing and editing textbooks in educational publishing where she has worked now for more than thirteen years. She has created educational materials in most content areas, specializing in social studies, remedial education, and test preparation. Clanci also serves as an educational consultant. Her coauthors on the For the People, By the People: U.S. History Beginning to Present program are Jim Eddy and John Allen, who have backgrounds similar to Clanci's, and are her frequent coauthors on educational materials.

Dr. June StrideDr. June Stride and Richard Wolf

Richard WolfDr. June Stride and Richard Wolf have been teachers in Freeport, Long Island, for a combined total of more than fifty years. Together, they developed the Street Smarts drug education and prevention program out of their frustration that the substance abuse prevention materials available did not interest or involve their students. Dr. Stride is a department chair, and Richard Wolf is a teacher. They have used the Street Smarts program for more than five years with students, refining it to be a realistic, multimodal, and interactive program with instructional strategies that motivate and involve students.
